JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – "He scared the mess out of my kids,” said Urana Cobb. She can sort of smile about it now, now that “he” is behind bars.
But on Tuesday, police found Michael Schneider, 53, right outside of Cobb’s apartment.
On Tuesday afternoon, Cobb’s family was in between cooking lunch in the kitchen and sitting in the dining room when it happened. They say Schneider tried to break in. They report seeing him ripping their sliding screen door from the frame.
Spooked, the girls jumped up and started to scream, which alerted Cobb who was just down the hall.
"My daughter is like what are you doing here? What are you doing here? She grabs a knife. I grab a knife and the guy just takes off,” said Cobb.
According to his arrest report, Schneider took off on foot screaming.
In the Summer Oak apartment, at the time, were Cobb’s four kids and her teen cousin ranging in age from 10-16.
Police found Schneider not too far away from Cobb’s apartment. Police say he had blood and bruising on his hands and finger tips.
Schneider was arrested for burglary.
"It could have been worse. It could have been worse. I just thank God it wasn't,” said Cobb.
Schneider remains in the Duval County Jail with a $100,003 bond.
