JACKSONVILLE, Fla -- First Alert! Bands of very heavy rain will pinwheel west off the Atlantic through the day today. Rainfall rates will average 1-2" per hour causing some ponding of water on highways and making it a slow go if traveling. Where the bands of rain become persistent, total rainfall will exceed 6", but the average will be a half inch to 2" favoring the area from Highway 301 to the coast. In Duval County on the Southside of Jacksonville, 5" of rain has already fallen through 7am.
Winds will be another weather story today as east to northeast winds will blow 15-25 mph with higher gusts, especially in association with rain bands. The onshore flow will result in a high rip current risk at area beaches where the best advice is to stay out of the ocean
Outside of the bands of rain, skies will be partly to mostly cloudy with cooler temperatures today topping out only in the low to mid 80s from the beaches to I-95 and the mid to upper 80s well inland.
