JACKSONVILLE, Fla -- Hurricane "Sandy" is slowly moving north and will be about at Jacksonville's latitude midday Saturday some 300-400 miles to the east. The end result will be fringe effects more like a Nor'easter rather than a tropical cyclone. Winds will average 25-35 mph with gusts 40+ mph at the beaches...15-30 mph with occasional higher gusts along I-95...to 10-25 mph well inland. Several bands and clusters of showers will move rapidly west/southwest from the Atlantic dropping brief heavy rain and causing sudden bursts of wind. Total rainfall will not be great, however, ranging from a half inch to an inch near the coast to little or none well inland. Lingering clouds and showers will persist into Saturday morning followed by clearing in the afternoon. Winds will still be strong and gusty averaging 15-30 mph but mild temperatures will top out close to 80 degrees. Sunday will be the nicest day of the weekend under mostly sunny skies, a breezy N/NW wind and afternoon highs in the upper 70s. Click
