CHICAGO, Ill. -- Chicago Bears coach Lovie Smith expressed condolences to the family of a Bears fan killed in a Jacksonville pub over the weekend. The victim was in town to watch the Jaguars play the Bears at Everbank Field.

Lovie Smith began his Monday night news conference by acknowledging the loss of a fan.  He said, "We had a lot of people that came down to support us. Chris Pettry was one of them. You know, he was one of our long[time] supporters that was killed as he came to Jacksonville to support his favorite team. So, our prayers go out to his family."

Chris Pettry died when he throat was slashed early Sunday morning at Fionn MacCool's Irish pub.  Police tell Action News, 27-year-old Matthew Hinson admitted to the murder.

Hinson is in jail charged with murder.

Not to undermine the tragic nature of this horrific event, with all seriousness. I am a redneck but I am very confident the word jerk is not spelled jurk....You make our town seem illiterate. If you don't like rednecks, leave our town....but get you're GED first.

I've seen a Jag fan throw a cup of beer on a guy that was at a game cheering his team on, this is not the nomal fun loving fan, this guy was a idiot. It doesn't matter what team it is, we all have idiots like the jurk that killed the bears fan, it's a shame that now we look like a bunch of rednecks and it's a slap in the face for Jacksonville because one idiot does something like this.
