CHICAGO, Ill. -- Chicago Bears coach Lovie Smith expressed condolences to the family of a Bears fan killed in a Jacksonville pub over the weekend. The victim was in town to watch the Jaguars play the Bears at Everbank Field.
Lovie Smith began his Monday night news conference by acknowledging the loss of a fan. He said, "We had a lot of people that came down to support us. Chris Pettry was one of them. You know, he was one of our long[time] supporters that was killed as he came to Jacksonville to support his favorite team. So, our prayers go out to his family."
Chris Pettry died when he throat was slashed early Sunday morning at Fionn MacCool's Irish pub. Police tell Action News, 27-year-old Matthew Hinson admitted to the murder.
Hinson is in jail charged with murder.
