JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office will release new information about the death of a Chicago Bears fan following a fight at The Jacksonville Landing Sunday.

Police arrested 28-year-old Matthew Hinson after witnesses say he stabbed 42-year-old William Pettry during a fight at Fionn MacCools.

Action News has learned Pettry is from Illinois and was in Jacksonville for the Jaguars vs. Bears game.

Pettry's wife posted this message on Facebook: "My husband William Christopher Pettry was taken from his family too early. Some idiot has taken his life. I'm so mad, just don't understand why."

Visitors to the downtown area tell Action News they are shocked to learn an incident of this nature could happen at a family-friendly location like The Landing.

"I can't believe it happened," said Andrew Meyer. "We were just there and it doesn't seem like the kind of establishment that someone gets stabbed."

The Jacksonville Landing released the following statement: "The Jacksonville Landing and Fionn MacCool's would like to express our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the victim, William Pettry, from the incident last night. Our thoughts and prayers are with them.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says it will release new information about the stabbing on Monday. Stay with Action News for the very latest.

I am fro Lake Villa and the victim has come into my barber shop many times. I have cut his hair a few times. He was always smiling and a hard working family man. I was terribly saddened to see the news today. Anyone who takes another persons life for absolutely NO reason and so brutally at that should be put down. My deepest sympathies go out to the family of this Father and Husband...

@kurjlow- we're all Americans & I personally don't care where you're from. This should not happen anywhere. My apologies to the family. He looks like a fun guy to hang with. RIP.

This is so sad. People from other states should be able to represent themselves in any state. Being from Chicago myself, I see people here in Florida don't like us northern folks. Time to live up to your so called "southern hospitallity". My prayers go out to the family and friends of this man who got killed.

Very sorry for the family of this man. Jacksonville is not a bad place and this is not a typical evening at the Landing. I've taken my family there often and never had a problem. It a fun place with live music on the river. It has shops, restaurants, and bars. It's on the St. Johns River so many boaters dock there for a fun filled afternoon or evening. Downtown Jacksonville has very little residential areas. This had to be some kind of a fluke. The good news is they did catch the guy and trust me this guy will be dealt with harshly. I'm sure the Major and the City council will be very involved with the case and use it as an example to deter future crimes against visitors from other states. We've had Superbowl's, College bowl games, NFL playoff games etc.. here and this is something that the city will just not tolerate!
