Black legislators cancel meeting with Fla. Gov.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Florida's black state legislators are saying that it would be a waste of time to meet with Gov. Rick Scott.
The Florida Legislative Black Caucus requested a meeting with the Republican governor. But the group on Wednesday abruptly cancelled the meeting just hours ahead of time.
Rep. Alan Williams, D-Tallahassee, said the group voted the night before to cancel the meeting. Members of the group concluded that Scott had not addressed their concerns in the past.
Black legislators in past meetings with Scott have questioned his appointments and his decision to make it harder for convicted felons to win back voting rights.
A spokeswoman for Scott said the governor was "disappointed" but that he was available to any member of the caucus who wanted to talk to him.
