JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Police have identified the body of the man who washed ashore in Little Talbot Island earlier this month as a 50-year-old man from Hilliard.

On January 9, two people walking the shoreline in Little Talbot Island Park contacted the Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department after finding a man face down in the water.

Carlos Jimenez and Freddie Davis pulled the lifeless man from the water and stayed with him until authorities arrived.

Paramedics were unable to revive Billy Denney of Hilliard. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Patrick Taylor, Denney's fishing partner, told JFRD that he went to the rocks to fish and left Denney on the shoreline.

The cause of Denney's death is still unknown and the investigation is ongoing.
