JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- ESPN's Friday Night Fights is coming to Jacksonville.
It'll be called the "Big City Brawl in Duval," and will attract a number of international boxers to the River City.
At least one local boxer, Chris Vendola II, of Fernandina Beach, will be fighting in the event, which will take place on Friday, June 28, at the Veterans Memorial Arena.
Jacksonville's Sports and Entertainment Director Alan Verlander says he has made it his mission to bring more than football and basketball to the city.
The fights will be nationally televised. According to the city, professional boxing hasn't been seen downtown in over 11 years.
