ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- The driver of a rollover accident that caused the Bridge of Lions to close down was air lifted to UF & Shands Jacksonville after he ran from the accident scene naked and jumped from the highest point of the Castillo de San Marcos.
According to the St. Johns County Fire Rescue Department, a rollover accident involving two cars occurred on the west side of the Bridge of Lions Wednesday afternoon.
The driver that caused the accident got out of his vehicle, took off all his clothing and ran along the bay front to the Castillo de San Marcos.
According to authorities, once the naked man reached the fort, he climbed to a high point and jumped to the floor level below, about 30 feet.
The man was air lifted to UF & Shands Jacksonville with serious injuries. The other driver involved in the accident was not injured.
The Bridge of Lions was closed for several hours due to the damage is sustained in the rollover. The investigation is ongoing and charges have not been filed.
