JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Police have charged two brothers with murder for a drug deal that ended in a suspicious fatal crash on the Southside.
Shane and Jamie Meekins have been charged with murder for the death of Rodney Stone.
On May 17, 2012, police were called to a serious crash involving a car and a light pole on Phillips Highway and Olevia Street. A car had hit a light pole and smashed into an abandoned house.
Crews cut Rodney Stone out of the car and he was taken to the hospital where he later died.
The day of the crash, witnesses told police they saw Shane Meekins driving away from the crash scene on Olevia Street.
Before he drove off, witnesses saw Meekins open the driver's side door and pull Jaime Meekins out of the crashed vehicle, leaving Stone in the passenger seat.
Doctors told investigators that Stone's injuries did not happen in the crash and that he was shot twice in the head.
Detectives were able to gather enough evidence to connect the Meekins brothers to the murder and they were booked into the Duval County Jail.
