BRUNSWICK, Ga. -- Six days and four arrests after the murder of 13-month-old Antonio Santiago, Chief Matt Doering says his community still has concerns.

He says they want to know, was Sherry West and her baby boy targeted by the two suspects, DeMarquise Elkins and Dominique Lang?

He says the answer is no. "We're comfortable now, six days into it that the location of the incident and the victim were random," Doering said.

Second, he says people want to know if the shooting was gang related. That's still unclear.

"There are some, or is some, information that is somewhat gang related.  But it does not yet lend itself to conclude that it is gang related activity, or motivated," he said.

The bigger question for Baby Antonio's mom and their neighbors is why.  They're still struggling to come to terms with the fact that police say a teenager shot a baby in a stroller while trying to rob his mother.  And according to new court documents obtained by Action News, it's not the first time 17-year-old Elkins has held up someone with a gun.  The indictment says he was involved in an armed robbery earlier this month.

Chief Doering says there are still a lot of things we don't know about this case, lot of things they can't tell us yet.  But he says they're learning more everyday.

"More physical evidence has been recovered.  And other witnesses have been identified," he said.

Suspects DeMarquise Elkins and Dominique Lang aren't the only ones facing legal trouble following the murder of Baby Antonio.  New court documents name Elkins family as well.

Elkin's mom, Karimah, and her sister, Katrina, are each charged with lying to police.  But for Karimah Elkins, a convicted felon, the charges don't stop there.

She's also accused of possessing a hand gun.  And she and her daughter, Sabrina, are accused of helping dispose of the weapon by throwing it into a salt water pond.

In addition, Action News has learned Sherry West's mental health has been called into question. Documents show Elkins' attorney, Kevin Gough, has requested her medical records after receiving reports that she was paranoid, bi-polar, and possibly schizophrenic.

Gough says more than a dozen people have been subpoenaed to appear in court.  DeMarquise Elkins goes before a judge again Friday, April 5th.

The news is making this a racial issue. It is not. These teenagers are murdering scum (no matter what the race). Their families are lying scum (no matter what the race. There should be absolute fast justice on the murder trial and the crimes associated with impeding the arrest, to include the commissioner (who is finally going to get what he deserves for years of crime and intimidation).

so now they have enough to charge the sister with felony aiding & abetting !!! go get her in handcuffs !!!and seeing as more than 1/2/ the family is in jail, awaiting prison,, it is time for the state to cut assistance to this family,,ie: food stamps cut by 2/3's,, any cash to afdc cut entirely,, and notify social security to suspend or cancel outright any future payments on behalf of either boy & possibly the mother & aunt... when they get out of prison/jail, force them to go through the application process again & then deny them... obviously none of them are disabled,, extremely stupid,, but not physically or mentally disabled & there for not entitled to any checks from the American public !!! perhaps this will teach them personal accountability ??? doubtful,, but no harm in trying... seeing as giving these fools thousands per month has failed as a social experiment,, let's now force them to get jobs & pay for their own sorry ashes !!!

So what if the baby's mom had issues! The fact is, and still remains, that these "thugs", "animals", had no respect for human life, and didn't give a second thought, when it came to taking a human life! Wanting a dollar! These thugs are animals and should be treated as such! Put them down!!!!! And just for "truth be told"…I, personally, do not believe in the "death penalty". Yet, these two are not humans!!! They are animals, and have obviously been raised as such! They deserve to receive the same treatment that this poor baby received! God help us all!!!!
