BRUNSWICK, Ga.-- A local community is using security cameras to help catch criminals.

The half-million dollar investment in Brunswick has helped cut down on crime. It has also helped officers like Jeremy Wilson capture criminals quicker than before.

"You can go back and review camera footage and make arrests off that alone," said Wilson.

This new monitoring system is working. In fact, we found out the cameras played a big role in the arrest of D'Marquise Elkins, the teen who murdered 13-month-old Antonio Santiago. "It nailed down where he was and that his alibi was false," said Wilson.

Because of the success, the Brunswick Housing Authority just finished installing even more cameras around town. Now, 136 are watching peoples every move. "There's no expectation of privacy once you're out of personal space," said Wilson.

While not everyone around here likes the idea that big brother is always watching, people like Laretta Wallace believe the cameras are necessary. "There is an eye in the sky. If you think no one is looking, they're looking," said Wallace.

The money for the cameras came from the agency's budget. The housing authority applied for a grant but didn't get it.
