FRUIT COVE, Fla. -- A rash of car burglars have put neighbors and deputies on alert.

St. Johns County investigators say five people had their vehicles broken in to Thursday evening. The burglaries were in three locations, but windows were smashed in each incident.

Two of the burglaries happened at the Switzerland Dance School on State Road 13 North. Investigators say purses containing credit cards and identification were stolen.

At the Julington Creek Plantation Aquatic Center, two cars got their windows smashed. Contents from a purse were taken in that incident.

The fifth burglary happened at Julington Creek Plantation Park. A woman's purse was stolen in that vehicle break-in.

Deputies say there have been an increase of smash-and-grab burglaries. Information about any of them can be given anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 888-277-TIPS.
