JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Local businesses say they want to be proactive when it comes to swine flu.
Just about everywhere you go, you'll see a bottle of hand sanitizer. Businesses we talked with say it's just one way to keep their employees from getting sick.
Whether it's at the hair salon, the local phone booth in the mall or the airport, you can't go to many places without seeing a bottle of hand sanitizer sitting out for people to use. Local businesses want their employees to stay healthy.
"It's a great safety measure they're taking," said business owner, David Emery.
Emery owns Senior Helpers and works in an office building with dozens of other employees. With all the concerns about swine flu, he says the small, inexpensive bottle is one way they can help people stay healthy. They keep a bottle right on the front desk.
"It's not uncommon at all. People are very aware of the virus and other issues going on," said Emery.
He says you can tell people are using it. "You can smell it. People become familiar with it, and use it more frequently," said Emery.
Every time you push down, just a little bit of sanitizer can help keep you from getting sick.
Emery says he's glad businesses are recognizing the importance of staying healthy. "I think it's a great technology. It's a great move for companies like this to make it available and I think it'll have a positive impact," said Emery.
Other places like, daycare centers are also using a lot of sanitizer, and encouraging kids to wash their hands more as well.
