MIDDLEBURG, Fla. -- The Florida Highway Patrol says the search is on for a vehicle that struck a pedestrian near the intersection of County Road 220 and College Drive Sunday morning.

The crash report states a bystander found 24-year-old David Miller of Green Cove Springs lying critically injured in the roadway around 3 a.m.

The man alerted the staff at a nearby McDonald's and advised the drive-thru attendant to call for help for the victim, troopers say.

Miller was transported to UF Health Jacksonville.

Law enforcement is actively working on the investigation and asks that anyone with information call the Florida Highway Patrol at 904-301-3700.
