CCSO Deputy arrested for DUI
GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. -- A Clay County Sheriff's Deputy is on administrative leave after being arrested for DUI.
CCSO Deputy James Avery was arrested Saturday after a traffic crash on State Road 21 just north of State Road 16.
The Florida Highway Patrol tells Action News, they arrived at the scene of the crash to find Deputy Avery safely out of the car. Troopers say they noticed his speech was muffled, he was unsteady and seemed to be under the influence of alcohol.
Deputy Avery was given a field sobriety test, then arrested and booked into the Clay County Jail. Once at the jail, the FHP says Deputy Avery blew zeros on the breath test measuring alcohol levels.
A urine sample was sent to Florida Department of Law Enforcement and toxicology report is pending.
Deputy Avery is now on administrative leave during the investigation.
He has been with the CCSO since August of 1996 and has performed the duties of patrol deputy and school resource deputy.
