Cancer con mom gets prison time
GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. -- A woman who admitted to conning thousands of dollars from people by faking her own cancer is going to jail.
A judge sentenced Mary Ann McCall to three years in prison today. McCall pleaded guilty to all counts she faced earlier this week.
McCall told people she was battling end-stage cancer. She received thousands of dollars in donations and gifts.
But it was all a lie.
One of her victims told the court today that she's relieved that McCall is going to prison.
"Freedom from Mary Ann McCall, freedom from my mind," said Dawn McCarthy.
McCall also received two years of level 2 community control, followed by eight years of probation. She also cannot use the internet or have any contact with the victims or their families.
The Clay County mother must also pay $71,000 in restitution.
