JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- They lost their car, but escaped just in time as it sank into the creek behind the Action News Studios. Now the two teens share their story of survival, and a brave act to reclaim a family heirloom.

Todd Dixon and Gio Nieves shared their story with Dawn Lopez live on Action News this morning.

Shortly after our report, we got a call from Atkinson Towing saying they would have a truck out to get the car out and tow it away for free!

Watch the video on the left for more.

And stay tuned to Action News to see how the free tow works out.

I have a question. Why would you reward someone for doing something that was illegal? These kids were driving without insurance which last I checked was illegal. How would you of felt if they crashed into you and your car ended up into the water and they told you they didn't have insurance? I bet you would be pretty upset. But now they are getting rewarded for doing wrong and something that was their fault. There are plenty of people out there that are in need of transportation that deserve a car more than some irresponsible teens. Just because they are dressed nice and were polite doesn't mean you should reward them for driving illegally. These are just my thoughts on this subject.

We really feel for this young man. He & his friend seemed to be really good, clean cut guys. Sadly, we don't see that much anymore. Kudos for being a good parent.

Thank You to Action News Jax and Atkinson Towing for helping my son. My heart broke for him when I saw it slowly sink into that canal.I know his did as well. He needed that car for work and school and now it's gone. He is a great kid hit by some bad luck. Sincerely, Angelia Mikell (Todd's Mom)
