JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office dive team has removed a car from a retention pond at I-295 and Philips Highway.

Florida Highway Patrol responded to the accident around 1:30 Friday morning. They tell Action News the driver, 59-year-old James E. Conti, was going north on 295 and lost control of his vehicle when exiting of the highway.

There are no guardrails along the ramp and the driver drove right into the water.

He is okay this morning and FHP says no one else was in the car at the time.

They say alcohol was not a factor.

How do you know he didnt have some tailgater on his back bumper? Have you seen how the people in Jax drive to close to each others bumpers to be able to stop as if daring you to slow down for a road hazard. Be it a curving off ramp, workers or animals. Everyone seems to forget the 1 car length for every 10 mph of speed, even more length if rain or fog. People drive trying to intimdate others by trailing on their bumper to close. Btw Show me anyone that actuall slows down to 25 mph before they on the ramp with the way this city drives on the expressways. It's not as bad as Atlanta or NYC but it is surely getting there.

yeah well, that's why exit ramps have speed limit signs on them.. you are supposed to be under the advised speed before you begin your turn on the ramp.. failure to adhere to the advised limit, will result in loss of control of your vehicle!! dummy!!! i hope they charged him with excessive speed for conditions & roadway...
