JACKSONVILLE, Fla.-- The sweet sounds of kids laughter are what you expect at a daycare. What you don't anticipate is a crime scene.
"You would think that nobody would touch or at least come on the premises especially where there are kids there. That's supposed to be a safe area for your children," mother Janelle Bealts said.
Action News obtained three police reports of car burglaries this morning. The victims? All parents innocently dropping off their kids.
One car was broken into at KinderCare on Barkoskie Road. Two at Baymeadows Baptist Church Daycare on Baymeadows, and one at Mandarin Children's Academy on Hood Road.
That's where Bealts takes her 6-month-old and 2-year-old.
"It's nerve racking because they could have did something else more than break into a vehicle," she said.
According to the police report, only one of the cars was unlocked. The other three had their windows busted out smash and grab style. Each time there was a small, black 4-door vehicle with dark tint nearby.
The victims told police they were inside no more than 10 minutes meaning the crook had their eye on them.
"I think someone would stake it out. See us running in, run up to the car really quick and take stuff out of your car," grandmother Jennifer Masters said.
At this point there's no leads as to who's responsible. Bealts says she's not going to wait to find out. She's taking precaution from here on out.
"I'm locking my car. I'll make sure I do it every day. Every morning in and out, I don't care how long it takes for me to drop my kids off," she said.
