FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. -- A 62-year-old man who was traveling at 80 miles per hour in a posted 45 mph zone on the Whiteview Parkway lost control and ended up hitting a tree, the Florida Highway Patrol reports.

Emergency crews say they responded to the crash shortly before 3:25 Saturday morning and found the driver deceased at the scene.

Troopers identified the driver as Palm Coast resident Robert Cronin.

A crash reports states that after Cronin’s Toyota Camry left the parkway and traveled 111 feet on the median before it struck a tree.

Officials are still testing to see if alcohol was a factor in the single-car crash.
