JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- There's a new man in charge of bringing new business to Jacksonville. Today, Mayor Brown made Ted Carter head of his Office of Economic Development.
He said, "He's my choice. The best choice to focus on the city's role in economic development, to work with all the stakeholders, and take Jacksonville to the next level."
Carter's job is to remove any governmental obstacles a new business may face when deciding to move to Jacksonville.
Jerry Mallot with Jax USA Partnership and the Chamber of Commerce said, "This job focuses on the governmental elements of economic growth and expansion. We focus on the marketing, prospecting, and drawing clients to the area."
The goal here is to attract good-paying, high-quality jobs.
"We still have challenges in our city," said Mayor Brown. "Our unemployment is coming down, but it's still too high." He went on to say, "I want to make sure that we're the most competitive city in the marketplace."
Carter's appointment still needs City Council approval. His salary will be $195,000 per year.
