ST. AUGUSTINE, FLA. -- Businesses welcomed the reopening of the Castillo de San Marcos, saying its closure hurt their bottom line.
"It's definitely slower than it would have been," said Jason Alexander with the White Lion Restaurant and Pub. "It's hurt everyone overall. The fort's a big draw to the city."
Tourists flocked to the monument Thursday, glad to see they were able to tour the whole facility.
"We were here on Monday and wanted to come in so we came back today hoping it would be open," said Donna Miller, who traveled down from Kentucky.
The park offered free admission as a way to welcome visitors back after the shutdown, a park staffer said. The park is expected to return to full operations on Friday.
