P-3 is incredible aircraft, however, it appears our so called aviation anti submarine warfare units need additional training. After all did the government not say an Akula 2 attack sub operated in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Fla for a month undetected? I don't buy that, but if it did happen then someone with the P-3's was definitely lax. The other question in my mind would be why would an Akula 2 risk destruction and a military incident unless there was something to be gained from such an event? Makes you wonder who or what they picked up. Obviously something physical in nature that required such a risk. I wish the new commander success in maintaining the aircraft. It is not his job to catch enemy subs that falls to base command and squadron commander to do that competently.
