CLAY COUNTY, Fla. -- A local man who's devoted his life to fighting against child sexual predators is now being targeted by those very offenders.

David Rowe and his team have done a lot in our area to make sure offenders are known to the public. “The way I look at it is somebody has to do something. Pedophilia has become a full blown epidemic."

He formed No Peace for Predators after Somer Thompson was kidnapped and murdered. Ever since then, the watchdog group works to expose who they call the worst of the worst, sex predators. Just last year, they got an ice cream truck out of the hands of registered sex offender, Jackie Hall. If someone like Hall moves to the area, Rowe and his team spread the word with fliers.

“We go to their next door neighbor’s house; we go to the stores they shop in. Everywhere they could possibly lay foot and we put their faces everywhere,” said Rowe.

But now, Rowe says, an underground group of registered sex offenders are trying to do the same thing to him. “They're trying to paint me as this monster."

According to Rowe, disgruntled sex predators are distorting his character on blogs and social media sites like Facebook. They call him a violent vigilante. Action News did some digging and discovered that Rowe was recently arrested for fighting at a local bar. But he says that doesn't make him the monster, some are calling him online.

“That we go out and do harm to these people and that's not the case at all. We've never touched anybody,” said Rowe. “We're here to let the people know who these guys are, what they've done and what they're capable of doing."

Rowe says he reported the group, Campaign for Freedom, to Facebook but the content has not been taken down. Campaign for Freedom says it's devoted to ending vigilantism and reforming sex offender laws.

Talk about a misleading article--Rowe is only a hero to the worst sort of primordial redneck element in society. He not only hates but demands that others share in his hatred. His whole band of thugs ought to be placed under mental health supervision at the very least.

Oh, really? Rowe was the one crying to the media that he was being "attacked online". Yet he failed to mention he attacked me and others online, spreading lies and threatening our families. I have lots of screenshots as evidence. He's a danger to kids himself, advocating violence to entire families of those forced to register, even kids. Plus he gives alcohol to minors. He claimed he lost his job because he was "outed by pedophiles", when in reality he was letting minors drink in the bar he was guiding. There was a murder of a registrant near Jax. I say investigate NPFP, I wouldn't doubt they were involved somehow.

Justice (10:41 AM): Yes, I am comparing Rowe to a child molester but I would be willing to bet that he is a lot worse than most molester. Just a personal hunch on my part. You see, I don't commit crimes so when I see people who do start talking about how much better they are than "sex offenders" and harassing them, I get a bit annoyed. People who physically fight other people and get into altercations in bars are not good people. In fact, a lot of them tend to just be general criminals. I don't want those people living around me. There are a lot of people living among us who have committed crimes and harmed other people, including children. There is no legitimate reason to single out "sex offenders" as the subset of those to harass. Real parents don't need nanny governments pointing out "sex offenders" and they certainly don't need people like Rowe adding to it. I don't get to pick my neighbors so I mind my own business generally. I am friendly with everyone and make friends with them when I can. But I assume that any person could hurt my family. Even members of my own family. I don't need any registries. And you think Rowe is doing a good job because he "has y'all pretty upset"? I would say that is a great indicator that not only is he not doing a good job, he is a divisive vigilante and someone I would personally call a terrorist.

E Are u guys really comparing a bar fight charge to a child molester. If we were notified everytime someone was arrested for a fight are mail boxes would be full. Im sure the registry's and public notification work on severity of the crime. Doesn't seem very intelligent to compare the two. I respect david rowe for what he does and the organization he has started. He's doing a good job obviously because he has y'all pretty upset. Lol

The proof is in the pudding -- Look at Rowe's own words -- http://absolutezerounites.blogspot.com/2012/08/david-rowe-cries-to-media-as-he-gets.html

Hey David Rowe- just curious, are you friends with officer Richard Cannon, the officer from JAX, the one just charged with 2 counts of sexual battery of a minor? I'm only asking because he holds a position of trust with the public, which he has exploited for sexual gratification, and I'm wondering if maybe that is your angle as well. I mean, most people in the general public dont have this deep fixation with predators the way you do, so maybe you're trying to take the target off yourself by placing it on others? Much like this officer? Don't worry, I'm not really expecting a response.

At the time Somer was murdered, the alleged killer was NOT a registered sex offender. Again, it is a moot point, because Rowe's mission is not about protecting kids, it is about finding a legal way to harass and bully people. He has arrests for violent assaults, has been banned from half the bars in Jacksonville, and has to do something about that roid rage. Sadly, Florida has allowed violent vigilantes like Rowe to harass and threaten people. Last year, rather than go to the media with an issue, he gathered a big crowd of people to attack one man. They shouted threats to the man and video taped it, posting the harassment online. He has posted many attacks on his site. his new online buddy Valigator also has a lengthy arrest record for assault and also harasses people online. If they hated when a couple of people published a LINK to their info THEY published online, then how do they think their victims feel about what he has done to them? He didn't like his own medicine and I don't feel sorry for him. He needs to be locked up before we see him arrested for murder.

Offenders and predators are in two very different categories. You are spreading ignorance, hatred and fear for your own gain. This is nothing more than shock TV. Why don’t you come up with real solutions, instead of exploiting Megan’s law? You are using the death of a child for you own gain. Why don’t you tell people the truth about Megan’s law? If you did honest reporting, you would show your audience that it does more harm than good. But where’s the profit in that, right?

Here's a question... Was Somer's murderer a registered sex offender? If not, his whole foundation really doesn't make any sense to me.

Stop criminals- I am 100% with you. I'm was simply explaining to Ashley how HER methods are Counterproductive to HER own goals. I agree that offenders going underground isn't a bad thing: it's an "unintended consequence" to what amounts to banishment. But Ashley doesn't seem to get that, as you pointed out, if she would just keep to herself and mind her business, the registry MIGHT stand a chance, but her and David's actions are ultimately what will bring it DOWN. I don't know if you read the article recently regarding REDUCING registry in Palm Beach County, Fl. (google it, it's a good read), but the MAIN reason they're looking into this is because so many offenders are going underground, and people like Ashley and David are the reason for that. Thanks for intelligent and articulate posts.
