JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A family is mourning the death of a 13-year-old girl after police say she was shot while visiting relatives in the Northside.
According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, Titania Mitchell and four other children were home alone when the shooting happened on the 11000 block of Riverstone Way.
The victim's mother, Juilane Williams, was visibly shaken after hearing the news.
Williams says her daughter was spending the night at their relative's home.
"You see these things on TV and you never know what it feels [like]. Now I know," said Williams.
According to JSO, the shooting happened around 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
"Inside the house there was a 13-year-old, an 11-year-old, a 10-year-old, a 9-year-old and 1-year-old with no adult supervision," said Lt. Rob Schoonover, JSO.
Police did find a weapon inside the home but won't say if the shooting was accidental or who pulled trigger.
"We believe this is something that happened inside that house with the kids," said Schoonover.
Three of the children are being questioned by investigators. At least four of the five children are related. It is still unclear if any of them will face any charges.
