JACKSONVILLE, Fla.-- There is now an agreement between the city and Department of Justice to fix ADA issues throughout the city.

Linda Schlatman has been in a wheelchair for the past two years. She says she's seen first hand the ADA problems in the city. "The sidewalks are really bad."

Under a new agreement with the Department of Justice, sidewalks are one thing that will be fixed. Action News obtained a copy of the settlement agreement. It lays out the 64 city properties that have issues. They include the main library, Met Park, and the baseball grounds.

The city budgeted $5.5 million through 2015 to fix the violations. We asked the city's new ADA coordinator how she plans to stop this from happening on future buildings.

"Updating policy procedures to make sure we're taking care of it, so we don't get into this position again," said Beth Meyer, ADA coordinator with the city.

The city already has ADA issues with its newest building, the $350 million courthouse. City Council President Bill Bishop says it's a concern.

"The courthouse is interesting cause it's brand new and the code should be understood," said Bishop.

As part of this agreement, the Department of Justice will be checking in on the city to make sure it meets all the deadlines. The agreement with the Justice Department is to get the work done over the next five years

Linda Schlatman: you have destroyed your body's joints (hips/knees/ankles/spine)by an eating disorder which has you so morbidly obese that you and hundreds or thousands like you have to rely on governmental medical handouts to supplement the cost of the electric wheelchairs to haul your disgustingly fat bodies about the city. If you could walk normally like I do, negotiating imperfections in the sidewalks wouldn't be an issue. So, now you disgusting lard asses want super smooth walk ways to run your electric wheelchairs on also... Will the entitlement mentality movement never cease? Linda- Shut the hell up and go have a FAT FREE WATER will ya?
