JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- City leaders are searching for a solution to the budget crisis, after voting down a suggestion by Sheriff John Rutherford to rollback property taxes earlier this week.

One suggestion getting attention is the possible sale of vacant buildings downtown.

City Council President Bill Bishop tells Action News that buildings, like the recently abandoned old courthouse, could make the city some big money.

"It's a way to make the city sustainable for the long term."

On Thursday, Bishop will host the first meeting of a special city council committee developed to hash out the details.

The meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Ed Ball Building. No word yet on how much money he believes the city could make.
