JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. -- Jacksonville Beach is officially open to guests. Thousands lined the roadways Sunday for the 67th Annual Opening of the Beaches parade.
The shoreline was packed with sunbathers and swimmers all ushering in the summer sunshine. Many say the warm weather is what brought them out.
"Luckily there was a breeze today which made it even better," said Erica Carmack.
Other beach goers say it's tradition that brought them to the annual event. Libby Reinsheld has been attending the event for three decades. She says it's the spirit and excitement that brings her back year after year.
"This is my beach. I've been here for years and we're all a family community and its great for the kids," says Reinsheld.
Still, others say it's the perfect opportunity to learn more about the beach community they call home.
"There were lots of local people around so we got to see who the Mayor is and who our police officers are," says Julie Lawler.
No matter what the reason, attendees of the Opening of the Beaches say they are looking forward to a sunny beach season to come.
