JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The City of Jacksonville has proclaimed Saturday, February 16, as Jordan Russell Davis Day.

The day falls on what would have been the teens 18th birthday.

Jordan Davis was shot and killed on Black Friday last November after an argument over loud music at a Southside Gate gas station.

The suspected gunman in the attack, Michael Dunn, is facing a charge of murder and three counts of attempted murder. Dunn's next court date is February 19.

Festivities for Jordan Russell Davis Day will be Saturday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Jacksonville Landing. Free food, soft drinks and musical entertainment will be available. The event is hospted by EasyE and T-Roy.

Why is it that there are no days for whites who are killed in the same manner..as I have said before , it isnt the whites keeping racism alive, it is the blacks that are doing it.

Why don't they put his 'thug mug' pic back up here from his face book account? This is a WARPED sense of TRUE responsibility and ACCOUNTABILTY on EVERYONE participating. To hide the truth and put these street running kids running with thugs on a PEDESTAL only makes kids go out and thug run some more.

Here we go again...praising a teen for letting is mouth overload his common sense and respect for others. Any death is a loss but, these teens the media and parents praise, should be ashamed. Too many teens are not taught respect for others, adults, or those in authority. His parents need to look at what they did not teach their child. Not to mention Jacksonville has a law/ordance against loud radios and noises/music coming from cars. I don't understand why our city mayor and council award the acts of teens who defy and threaten adults and others. I thought we voted and paid them to protect and maintain our city. The time and money expended here, could better be suited to fix and clean the neighborhoods in Jacksonville. This is just another teen suffering for his disrespect of others so, what is our city actually promoting?

Incredible! Dunn's jury remains to be selected, and the City declares Davis Day increasing the likelihood an impartial jury cannot be seated. Please publish the Mayor's proclamation. I'd like to see if, among the whereas clauses, the Mayor concludes that Dunn is guilty, thereby justifying the declaration.
