JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The city of Jacksonville is partnering with GovDeals to bring surplus auctions online.

This new form of auctioneering will save taxpayers money with a reduced commission fee from the previous auctioneer.

In addition to saving taxpayer dollars, moving the auctions online allows for a faster turnover of surplus items and reduces the Procurement Division's footprint in the surplus yard.

Tampa started a similar online auction program in July of 2007 and has since gained $1.3 million in revenue.
