Clay Co. Deputy and two inmates injured in crash
ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. -- A Clay County Sheriff's Deputy and two inmates he was transporting were injured in a traffic accident in Hawthorne.
The Clay County Sheriff's Office says Deputy Heath Coleman was driving two female inmates to the Lowell Reception Center in Marion County, but was involved in an accident along the way.
A spokesperson for the Sheriff's Office says another vehicle pulled in front of Coleman's on State Road 301 in Hawthorne.
Deputy Coleman was not seriously injured and was treated at the scene. The two inmates, Tiffany Modlin and Dorothy Ramsey, complained of head and neck pain and were taken to a hospital for treatment.
The Clay County Sheriff's Office says the women were in handcuffs and were also wearing safety belts in the rear seat of the vehicle.
FHP is in charge of investigating the crash.
