Thank you Clay County School Board for voting 5-0 (All Agreeing) to disassociate Clay's Schools from this "conference". Since that decision, the website where it generated from has been even more clear about the intent of the conference. It is NOT about history. It is, indeed, a partisan and religious agenda. People that spoke against it were primarily concerned about possible broken laws and ethics violations while Van Zant was planning the conference behind the School Board's backs. The site it comes from spews Tea Party rhetoric. Those supporting Korach ad Van Zant repeatedly said the conference was not political, and not about religion. But now that the Clay Board has made it clear it does not want to be associated with extremist views, the TRUTH is coming out on Korach's site. Korach states, "Rev. McCarthy who founded 5 Christian schools in Charlotte, NC will moderate panel discussion on November 4th." And in all caps, it goes on, "NOW THERE ARE SEVERAL SUBJECTS THAT OUR PANELISTS CAN SPEAK WELL TO: 1)MUST PUBLIC SCHOOL CURICULUM ELIMINATE THE STUDY OF RELIGION? WHAT ARE STUDENT’S RIGHTS UNDER THE LAW? 2)ROBERT BELLAH DESCRIBED COMMUNITIES OF MEMORY AS THE UJNDERSTANDING OF HISTORY THAT HELPS DEFINE THE SELF. WITHOUT THE UNDERSTANDING OF OUR HISTORY WILL WE LOOSE COMMUNITIES OF MEMORY 3)DO THE COURTS ACCEPT RELIGION IN CURRICULUM AS HISTORY AND LITERATURE? 4)AMERICAN HISTORY CATALOGS THAT OUR LEADERS ALWAYS PRAYED PUBLICLY IN TIME OF CRISIS AND GAVE THANKS PUBLICLY IN DELIVERANCE. AMERICA’S LAWS WERE BASED ON A JUDEO CHRISTIAN FOUNDATION. ARE THERE ANY BARRIERS TO REINTRODUCING OUR ABANDONED HISTORY LESSONS?" Not about religion? How did people wrap themselves in a flag, carry a bible and lie like they did at the Board meeting? Not about politics? It certainly is. Van Zant didn't do anything wrong? Apparently Van Zant failed civics in high school. He's certainly failing "Superintendent 101."
