CLAY COUNTY, Fla. -- The Clay County Sheriff's Office Financial Crimes Unit is investigating 28 fraud cases in the Oakleaf/Argyle area.
Investigators say the suspects are using "skimming" devices to obtain credit card information from victims without actually stealing the cards.
Sheriff's deputies say the suspects seen in the surveillance photos have used the stolen information to create fake cards and buy cigarettes, gift cards, gas and other items. Deputies believe more than one skimming device is being used.
Skimming devices can be placed inside of gas pumps and at the front of ATMs. Thieves can even use a hand held skimming device.
Many of the fraudulent transactions on the fake cards are happening in Orlando, Tamp and Miami areas. Other areas include in Georgia and Texas.
Over the last week, investigators with the Clay County Sheriff's Office have checked several businesses in the Oakleaf/Argyle area to make sure skimming devices were not present. So far, investigators have not found any of the devices.
If you know anything about the location of suspected skimming devices you're urged to call the lead investigator on the case at 904-264-6512. If you call Crime Stoppers, you will remain anonymous and could receive a cash reward if your tip leads to an arrest. The number is 1-866-845-TIPS.
