MIDDLEBURG, Fla.-- It's a fire that's confusing law enforcement.
"When a car catches on fire, it's usually an accident or a gas leak or something like that," Kimberly Gittemeier said.
The Clay County Sheriff's Office said it doesn't know what caused one of its deputy's cruisers to go up in flames on Blanding near Brannan Field Road.
By the time emergency responders got the call at 6:27 Saturday, drivers had already stopped to take pictures.
"It is surprising. I never heard of that happening before," Andy Wilder said.
The Sheriff's Office tells us the freshly cut grass underneath the car may have contributed to the combustion. The deputy inside was taken to the hospital as a precaution, but is OK.
Still, drivers would like the mystery to be solved.
"I'd like to know what caused the grass to burst into flames, I guess," Gittemeier said.
Just that one area was affected during the blaze. The grass, of course, is expected to grow back.
