GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. -- No lines, no waiting in Green Cove Springs. City Hall had a voters lined up before the polls opened, but the quickly moved them through once the doors opened at 7 a.m. By 7:30 there was no longer a need to stand outside at all.
That's good news since it has been raining here all morning.
GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. -- Clay County Supervisor of Elections Chris Chambless is encouraging everyone to vote in honor of a veteran. He said it would be a great thing to do with Veteran's Day coming up.
People started showing up to do just that at 6:30 this morning at City Hall in Green Cove Springs. There was a nice line by the time the polls opened at 7 a.m. But the wait wasn't too bad.
One voter, who showed up after the polls opened, said it only took about 30 minutes.
The supervisor of elections says he doesn't expect the lines to last longer than an hour.
GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. -- Even before the polls officially opened this morning, almost 45 percent of Clay County voters had spoken.
"Right at about 42,000 early votes alone have been cast," Chris Chambless, Clay County Supervisor of Elections, said.
That's the most in Clay County's history. Supervisor of election Chris Chambless says it's about more than just the commander in chief.
"I think there's a number of things that drives the popularity of the ballot. Of course we have an ordinance proposition for Sunday alcohol sales. That's driving a portion of the vote. Presidential election. Anytime your electing your hightest elected official, always drives that vote. Constitutional amendments. More than we've ever had before. Almost 4,000 words on the ballot. There's a lot to choose from."
Chris' goal as supervisor of elections is to have a 100 percent turnout. And don't let the rain deter you. He's got inspirational words to encourage his county to show up at the polls.
"You know one of our things we look for with Veteran's Day coming up, vote in honor of a veteran. I think it's a great opportunity to come out. I think that the weather at some periods of time may not be best. But I assure you the weather today will be far better than the weather they experience in Afghanistan and Iraq. Come out and vote in honor of a vet."
