MIDDLEBURG, Fla.-- Firefighters are busy in Clay County. With winds showing no sign of stopping, neither do 7 acres of active wildfires in the area.
Action News has learned the county has doubled up on crews and brush trucks.
"That brings more trucks and more people to the game when we get an issue like this to hopefully throw more resources at it," said Clay County Emergency Manager John Ward.
Patricia Chappell is worried the fire in her backyard will flare up again. Parched grounds and strong winds are the perfect breeding ground for fast burns.
"Within a 10-minute timeframe of just seeing a little wisp of smoke to flames to making the call and it was totally engulfed," said Chappell.
As the crews load up to head to other hot spots around town, Chappell is just glad the forest service works so fast.
"If they would have taken probably ten more minutes to get here, I think it would have probably reached our property," she said.
Eighty percent of all wildfires are started by human carelessness. The Florida Forest Service says they need everyone's cooperation to keep wildfires under control.
