FLEMING ISLAND, Fla.-- A local school district is being sued.
It's a sign of another battle in the Clay County school district. We uncovered this lawsuit filed in Massachusetts against the district and another school employee. It centers around Murray Banks, who is a motivational speaker.
According to the lawsuit, there was a contract for him to speak to school leaders for $17,500. We were there when the school board voted against spending that kind of money in May.
But emails we obtained show district leaders in the superintendent's office were talking about a contract 10 days before the plan ever came to the school board for approval.
We asked the superintendent how the district was going to handle the new legal battle. "I don't have a lot information, so I'm not going to comment. I just don't know enough," said Superintendent Charlie VanZant.
But Banks' agent wants $7,000 back. It's the latest money battle the board has to deal with. Taxpayers say enough is enough.
"The priorities aren't right, right now," said one taxpayer.
There is a court hearing scheduled for next week. Banks' agent did not want to comment.
