GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. -- Deputies say a surveillance picture from a Middleburg Walmart helped them catch a thief in a green T-shirt who stole two flat screens.
William Delmar Mixon is in wearing green again, this time a jail jumper from Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. And Clay County deputies say it's all because of Facebook.
"We don't have to spend thousands upon thousands of man hours trying to identify one individual," said Chief of Staff Craig Aldrich.
The Clay County Sheriff's Office Facebook page has only been up for three weeks. And in just two days they were able to make an arrest in a case they say normally takes at least two weeks to solve.
"We can put on our Facebook various crimes: burglaries, auto break-ins, robberies, who these people are, the nuggets of evidence we have and let them tell us who they are," said Aldrich.
"I think there are a lot more people on Facebook these days. I think a lot more people see it."
It's crime fighting gone digital, and it is helping communities like the ones in Clay County stay safe.
The Clay County Sheriff's Office tells Action News it also uses Facebook to investigate potential hires.
