JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. -- As dawn broke, the evidence of last night's Fourth of July celebration at Jax Beach was revealed all over the sand.
"This morning it was devastating, trash everywhere, bottles floating in the water," neighbor Alex Hamilton said.
"We come out here and the beach is completely littered, like there is so much firework trash it's ridiculous," neighbor Brooke Asher said.
But neighbors like Hamilton and Asher didn't let it last long.
Early Friday morning, groups of volunteers made their way out to the beach to help clean up the mess.
"When we noticed they have a beach cleanup crew, we immediately hopped in," Hamilton said.
Volunteers picked up everything from beer bottles to plastic wrappers, an item that scares the sea turtle patrol.
"Certainly ingestion is a problem especially for plastic bag types of things or anything with string," said Jennifer Burns, the Director of Sea Turtle Patrol.
Although most of the mess was cleaned up, neighbors say it will remain their daily mission to keep the beaches.
