ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla.--The cleanup is on for that mess left by a homeless man who set up camp. After our story aired last night, Velma Campbell says, she began to get the help she needed for the clean-up effort.

Backhoes, workers and giant piles of garbage filled Velma Campbell's property off Atlantic Boulevard Friday morning. Campbell is stuck cleaning up this mess, after a homeless man moved onto her property more than five years ago.

"Enormous amounts of trash and pallets. Anything you can think of. Gas cans, concrete block. They even had a weight that they were using to exercise with," says Velma Campbell.

Campbell decided to clean up the area after she received a letter from Atlantic Beach, warning her of a steep fine if the garbage went unhandled. She says after Action News aired her story Thursday, she's now getting the help she needs to clean up this mess.

A crew of 5 JSO inmates, 3 officers, and a large dump truck showed up on her property first thing Friday morning. "It gave us help today at no cost and that's amazing. It could save me a few thousand," she says.

Campbell says there is still another two-three days of work, but she says the real clean-up needs to begin with the homeless problem itself. "That we find help for the homeless, that they find a place that they feel that they can go and be safe."

After the cleanup is complete, a new fence and gate as well as trespassing signs will be put up, in an effort to keep this place clear in the future.

JSO will be returning with inmate workers next Friday to finish the cleanup process.

Why not city sanitation workers clean it up' any why threated the property owner with fines for circumstances beyound her control! DAMN liberal "illogic".
