Coast Guard, Navy respond to report of injured freighter crewman
ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla. -- A Savannah Coast Guard crew assisted a freighter crewman who was injured on a boat near Mayport on Wednesday night.
The boat called the New Pacific was more than 200 miles east of Atlantic Beach on Tuesday night when the man suffered a puncture wound to the neck.
The victim was flown to Naval Station Mayport and taken to Baptist Medical Center in stable condition.
A Coast Guard helicopter crew from Air Station Savannah launched Wednesday afternoon to meet the New Pacific about 20 miles east of the St. Johns River entrance, where the man was brought to shore.
