JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A collision between two cars sent one car flying toward the Lakeshore Baptist Church.

Fortunately, a row of bushes kept the sports car from punching a hole into the church wall.

The driver of a sports car told the Florida Highway Patrol the gas pedal malfunctioned while at a left-turn light.

The driver told authorities the car suddenly accelerated.

The FHP says the driver clipped one car while trying to avoid other cars.

The sports car veered off toward the church.  Bushes in front of the church softened the impact.

The driver of the sports car went to the hospital for an evaluation.

No word on whether the church sustained any structural damage.  There was some paint damage from the collision.
