Columbia County Deputy on administrative leave after overnight shooting

COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. -- A deputy with the Columbia County Sheriff's Office is on administrative leave after an overnight shooting.

According to the sheriff's office, 36-year-old Justin Ferguson was shot by a deputy while he ran past deputies towards nearby homes. A deputy also said Ferguson threatened to harm himself and law enforcement. 

Deputies said Ferguson was armed with a handgun when they arrived at his home at 315 NW Lamar Place around 1 a.m. Friday.

According to the sheriff's office, Ferguson was transported to Shands UF for medical treatment. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating this shooting.
