Let me rephrase that, "Its way to long" for LAW ABIDING CITIZENS that have their paper work in order. As for first time appliers, It should take as long as it needs to make sure the applicant is eligible to conceal carry.

It will not shorten total wait time. First, at many tax collectors offices, people have to come in a wait for their turn, often an hour or more. Second, if they arrive and do not have the required doucmentation, they will likley be turned away and have to return. Lastly, if the tax collector submits an incomplete application (which is likely), then the applicant will have to wait for Tallahassee to send them a letter stating what is lacking, then the applicant will have to mail in what was lacking, and then their application will sit until it comes back to the top of the work queque to be processed. This will cause a huge delay in license issuance.

A HAM radio license is not in the US Constitution, carring a weapon is.

"You don't have to wait for it and it could mean the difference in a life or death situation." So...I guess he is saying that if you need to use a firearm to protect your family, you are going to zip over to the nearest tax office, get a permit, and then return to the scene of the crime and shoot the criminal, before he or she can do harm to a loved one. What a moronic statement.

I am a concealed weapons permit holder and it is actually way too easy to get one in this state. It is harder to get an Amateur (HAM) Radio Operators License than it is to get a concealed carry permit. You should have to demonstrate some knowledge and proficiency with a firearm before you are allowed a permit. Perhaps, even attend a firearms safety and marksmanship class. As it is now, anyone can get a permit whether they have any firearms experience or not. This is what leads to people getting shot by fools who think that they are Wyatt Earp just because they have permit. By the way, from the time that I mailed my application until I received my permit was 12 days. Way too long???
