ST. AUGUSTINE SHORES, Fla. -- A bicyclist hit while riding along a St. Augustine highway has been upgraded to serious condition at UF Health.

The Florida Highway Patrol said Michael L. Edwards, 45, of Olympia, Wash., was driving a Nissan Altima northbound on U.S. 1 today when he struck bicyclist Jesse Green III, 29, of St. Augustine, in an inside lane at the Deltona Boulevard intersection. Green had crossed into the path of two vehicles.

Green was airlifted to UF Health in Jacksonville in critical condition at the time and has since been upgraded.

Edwards and his passenger were not injured.

Charges are pending further investigation.

Thank you for the update. Rarely do we ever read a follow-up story or find out what happened to the victim. Hope he fully recovers.
