Confirmed case of West Nile virus in Duval County

DUVAL COUNTY, Fla. -- The Florida Department of Health in Duval County has confirmed a human case of West Nile virus.

The case involves a 57-year-old man.

Health officials said there is a heightened concerned that additional residents will become ill.

They're advising residents to take some basic precautions to help limit exposure their exposure to mosquitoes.

Drain standing water to stop mosquitoes from multiplying

Cover skin with clothing or repellent.

Cover doors and windows with screens to keep mosquitoes out of your house.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has more information on ways to avoid infection with West Nile virus.
