Expand the furloughs to congressional staffers and see how long they last.

People need to explain how you can not shrink defense, keep every government worker employed and shrink the deficit. Furloughs means Congress should be furloughing their office employees as well. Congress should be taking a pay cut as well till the deficit is under control. As reported last week there is no need for 13 aircraft carriers at this time. 10 can do the job albeit it means more at sea deployments when things heat up overseas. Another thing that needs downsizing at present is defense contractor over expenditures. A new plane bid at 1.3 billion to develop always ends up costing 2.5 billion instead. Contractors love that kind mark up it needs to stop. Government needs to put stipulation into their contracts that cost overruns for development WILL NOT EXCEED 10 percent of the bid price. If company tries to pull a stunt like mentioned above it loses the contract. Further all executives from CEO to the board are barred from bidding, or being part of a company with design contracts for 15 years. That will get the message across loud and clear. There should be serious look at shrinking the house of Representatives as well. 435 individuals each with an office in Washington DC and their home states paid for with tax funds. Cut it down to 300 Representatives. Seems Congress loves to turn blind eye to veterans losing Constitutional rights, so why then why can't they remove an over bloated legal structure? Such structure is badly in need of downsizing to regulate government spending. Another thing that needs reworking is the tax code. NO fair tax as they call it that is excuse to make the rich even richer by allowing the to invest and never pay taxes again effectively. Instead make income tax simplified. You earn 15 million you get taxed for earning 15 million at the same rate as the guy who earned it through construction, investing, stock market shares etc etc. Things like Romney paying 8 to 20 percent less taxes because he used a loophole should be ended.
