@oklahomavet, you are a jerk! Rape IS NOT about sex! It is about dominance, control, violence! The shooters mother purchased those guns. I'll bet that she felt VERY safe! You say it was well known that this young man had mental problems…Where did you get that info.? That is BS. None of that is known for sure! "As Americans we have an obligation to address the TRUE problem and not take the easy road." AMEN!!! Do you support the "Affordable Health Care Act"…aka. "Obama Care"? Are we all ready to take care of those that really do have mental issues? Remove them from our jails, and hospitalize, and treat them the way they should be treated? Not as criminals, but as mentally ill?

I find it interesting how so many blame guns. In Connecticut assault weapons are still band under a law mirroring the 1994 gun ban. So how is it possible that the gun he used was either legal there, or of an assault weapon? The shooter also didn't mind breaking multiple other laws, so what good would more laws do. It was well known he had mental problems, yet he didn't get the help he so desperately needed. The same goes for the shooter in Colorado. As Americans we have an obligation to address the TRUE problem and not take the easy road. It is not guns, it is people. If We ban guns for causing murder, we need to ban sex for causing rape. I for one do not believe giving up liberty in the name of "safety" is a wise decision. Our freedom is worth much more than safety, if you disagree just look at Arlington.

The only way to ban guns of any type is to make them cease to exist anywhere in the world. To implement a worldwide stoppage of their manufacture. That is not going to happen, and it shouldn't. The only way to reduce guns in the hands of criminals is to make laws for criminal use of guns tougher. Restricting their use by law abbiding citizens is a violation of our Second Amendment and gives government the ability to become tyrannical.

Did you know that the shooter had an altercation with school staff when he tried to enter the school the day before the shooting? Doesn’t Connecticut already have some of the strictest gun laws? Wasn’t this school a gun-free-zone? Under Connecticut law, would any teacher or staff members have the right to arm themselves to protect their students, instead of just throwing their bodies at the bullets? By outlawing their right to bear arms, weren’t they and their students set up like clay pigeons in a shooting gallery waiting for any nut case with a gun to walk in and start shooting without any fear of someone being armed? Wouldn’t a shooter choose ‘gun-free-zone’ as a target since there would be no armed resistance? Does the president have armed guards to protect his family? Are other officials protected by armed guards? Are our children not as valuable as our politicians? Do armed US Marshalls provide protection to passengers who are children on airplanes? Could trained professionals like police carry guns safely near children without incident? Isn’t school safety as important for children as airplane safety? Aren’t the real criminals the liberal politicians who have dismantled the laws that keep violent mental cases off the street where they can get help? First of all the general public has no understanding of what the Second Amendment entails. In the original documentation it state right to bear arms. In that amendment because of the fight with British and Men and Women wanted to protect there property so it was not taken away from them. It helped them ambush those intruders. Since when that original document was written people lost their life to gun. In 1791 it was noted that gun was to stay in home and that was the property. In 1900-1920 there was a total ban on guns cause of the severe causality among criminals and innocent men women and children. It wasn't till after world war I people needed weapons to protect their homes. They felt a threat of communism. But, mostly after that our country was in a very severe depression. We then were a consumer society. Building homes washing machines refrigerators and other things. World War II took place and to hunt down a man who was killing innocent men, women and children. When the war ended most people rejoined working again and full employment was reinstated. In 1999 once again a ban on assault weapons was signed. Keeping them out of the hands of Juveniles and Criminals. In 2004 A order was written to take away the ban by the bush administrations. This has nothing to do with the aftermath of 9/11/2001 where we felt threats against our country. Our society has changed and the bitterness prevails. I think weapons should only be used in war. I don't believe we need not to show the world we reinvent the wild wild west. No one understands the danger to little children who have their whole life ahead of them or the educational community who need to educate children of all ages the benefit to our free and democratic society. I think we failed in this way. I think we have a greater issue of Mental Health that needs to attend too. Guns are not toys, they are weapons of destruction. There is a very big difference.

I get so tired of hearing the politicians and the media talk about the dreaded "ASSAULT WEAPON". What is an "ASSAULT WEAPON"? Is it the knife the guy in China used to slash up 22 kids? Is it the hammer that the guy used to beat his mother to death? Maybe all the people who own hammers should register or turn in these hammers as they have been used in an assault! Maybe the government should confiscate (steal) them to protect the masses!!! Is it the rock that is thrown from an interstate overpass by some insane person. We have had plenty of those in this area? Maybe it is the pot of boiling water that the wife threw on her spouse!!! Lets do away with water heaters!!! How about the cars that some have used to try to kill other people? Lets ban all cars!!! Just what is an "ASSAULT WEAPON"? And while I am at it; What about alcohol? We still allow it to be sold everyday, everywhere when it is instrumental in many more deaths than any of the previously mentioned "ASSAULT WEAPONS". Let me answer that, the taxes from alcohol line many politicians pockets so alcohol isn't going anywhere. Bans work really well - think about illicit drugs!!! Here's the bottom line, bans only work for the law abiding who then become the victims of the law breakers. Are the inanimate tools used in these killings the problem or should we do something about the sick and wrong thinking individuals who are wielding them?
