Cop killer dies in prison

RAIFORD, Fla. -- The man convicted of killing St. Augustine Beach Deputy Marshal Ron Parker in 1975 has died in prison.

Thomas E. Desherlia, 68, was found dead in his prison cell Sunday morning at the UnionCorrectional Institution.

Desherlia shot and killed Parker as Parker sat in his patrol car near the Sheraton Inn on A1A in January 1975. Desherlia then stole the police cruiser.

He was sentenced to life in prison.Last December, Desherlia was denied parole by the state Parole Board.

Police believe Desherlia died of natural causes.

He committed the crime in 1975 and he just now died? What is wrong with our justice system?
